Okay, you might think greetings. So basic I learned that on day one of English class, but you know what?
You didn't learn the natural way. And so our teacher Marcos is going to lead you through
Seven greetings that will help you to sound more like a native
Natural English speaker because the fact is we and I mean English speakers who are fluent
We do not always use the same old greeting that you learn in your textbook
Which is usually hello. How are you? I'm fine. Thank you and you this is
Definitely not used by North American English speakers, and it may be used by British English speakers
But we're going to present seven ways that you can greet people and sound more like a natural
More like the awesome English speaker that you were meant to be

Now I'm pretty sure that you're familiar with the
Popular hi. Hello. How are you? The kind of greetings that you learned in the classrooms and in English textbooks
Not all natives ask. How are you? Actually actually there are a lot of ways that we greet. Okay, and
Trust me, it's not. Just how are you? There are a lot of ways that we greet someone okay?
So today I want to share with you seven
That are used by natives that will help you to greet a lot more natural. Okay, and to sound a lot more natural as well
What's up? I'm pretty sure it's a very famous but a lot of people know about this. What's up?
And the reduced form is sup. Alright, so you have what's up and the compact version?
Sup, alright, so I'll give an example. Hey, buddy, what's up? So hey
Generally used among teenagers and relatives and friends. Probably a brother or close friend, but
We don't use this greeting with someone that we're not really close to
Especially you're not in the workplace. Okay, you don't want to say this to maybe your boss or
pay attention to the context I have what kind of
Situation you're in. Okay. Now what's up? What's up? It's a kind of greeting that you don't expect an answer
Okay, so we're not actually asking what that person is doing. Okay, it's just an informal way of saying hi
Okay, so if I say to a friend of mine, hey, buddy, what's up?
He can also say sup Markel's and he can respond the same way
Alright doesn't have to say what's he's really doing at the moment. Okay?
The next one is what you're doing
What you're doing, so what you're doing is a reduced form of what are you doing?
we dropped the are we go directly to the pronoun you and
When we combine the T with the Y has a chuckle sound. Yeah, you use your throat. What shit doing what you're doing? Okay
It's a very direct question. And so
when you use this question actually
Expecting an answer. Okay. This is generally used with people that you see frequently on a regular basis. So
suppose that you go to a friend's house that you just saw yesterday and
And when you get to their house you say hey, so what you're doing alright?
So a common response will be on you know, nothing much or I'm studying or I'm watching Netflix or so forth
That person is actually gonna say what they're doing. Okay?
And the next point is how you doing how you're doing? Okay
Now how you doing is a reduced form of how are you doing again? We drop the are
All right we go directly to you
And we put it all together and we have a reduced
All right, you have two ways of saying this you can say how ya doing or how you do it
All right, pretty sure that you heard this greeting before if you familiar with the TV show friends
All right, Joey. How you doing? Hey
something that I wanted to mention I
noticed that a lot of people that are learning English they always
Respond to a greeting with I'm fine. Thanks
Now you don't usually respond with I'm fine. Okay, that's not a natural way for us to respond to a beating
So somebody says how you doing, we would generally say
So that would be a natural common response to this kind of greeting. Okay. Now the next one is how's it going?
How's it going is a very informal way of saying how's your life going?
Okay, that's what the it represents. Yeah
You can just say Oh things are going well
Everything's okay. Alright, there's some common responses - how's it going notice how I pronounce that how's it going?
That the it is almost imperceptible. Right? It's very subtle. How is it? How is it? How is it going?
All right, and I also drop the G
Okay, instead of saying going and we drop the G and generally we stop at the end
right, and that's for a lot of
Verbs that are on the I and G and we drop the G at the ends, right the next one is how are you Ted?
What you already know, how are you? All right. I just wanted to give you a heads up because there's a slight difference there
It's that you we give it a schwa sound
What's going on is the greeting that I use when I start a video all right, so what's going on means
What is happening, all right or what's happening at the moment but it's not it's a greeting and also an inquiry
Okay, because usually I use this greeting with my brother my friends and I'm not really expecting them to answer that question
It's just a way of saying hey, what's up? How's it good? You know, how's it going? How are you? Okay
So it's just an informal way of saying hi as well. Don't care. I
Also wanted to mention something about hey, okay now hey is an informal way of saying hi. Hello
Okay, you're gonna notice this in
The person stops by at a friend's house they hey, what's up? It's a hey, all right
You're gonna hear also need to say hey there
So these are some so hey is a sort of like another option of saying hi or hello, okay
now remember these are greetings that are
Informal you a formal way of speaking and you have an informal way of speaking. So there are two types of English
Understand what kind of situation that you're in
then you have to you have to choose your words that are appropriate to
the settings right to the situation if you would friends if you're with your
If you're with your family, then you can speak another way. Okay?
So what we're touching on today, what we're talking about is informal English
It's a kind of English that you can use with people that are that you're close to
People that you already have a close relationship with your friends your relatives and so forth. Okay
