How to Pronounce COFFEE

In this American English pronunciation video,

we're going to go over

the pronunciation of the word 'coffee'.

This week's Word of the Week is 'coffee'.

It starts with the K consonant sound,

where the back part of the tongue

will make contact here,

with the soft palate, kk, kk, kk.

Then it has either the AW as in LAW

or the AH as in FATHER sound,

co-, co-, co-, coffee.

The second syllable, unstressed,

begins with the F consonant sound, ff, ff,

so the bottom lip will come up

and make contact with the bottom of the

top front teeth, ff, ff, -ffee, -ffee, -ffee.

And finally, we have an unstressed EE vowel,

coffee, coffee.

So the first syllable, co-,

has more shape in the voice,

and the second syllable, unstressed, -ffee,

-ffee, -ffee, will be flatter and very quick.
